Final Fantasy 16 Profile Hidden in Nvidia's Latest Drivers, Fans Excited for PC Version Announcement at Gamescom
[Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 16 is coming, but the big question was "when?" and Resetera and Reddit fans think the answer may be coming soon. That's because the latest Nvidia driver update released today adds a GameReady profile for Final Fantasy 16.

There is no mention of Final Fantasy in the release notes for driver 560.81, but a Redditor who tracks changes in Nvidia's driver updates has learned that the latest release includes Final Fantasy 16, a Final Fantasy 16 demo, and Steam's He noted that it includes a profile of Once Human, the latest survival game to hit the market.

I updated to the latest drivers and using the custom 3D settings feature in the Nvidia control panel confirmed that all three are present; Nvidia has integrated driver features to ensure that games work well with Nvidia graphics cards, The company works closely with major game developers and often pushes driver updates to users near the release date for major titles such as Final Fantasy 16. The game that will be the centerpiece of this driver release, for example, is Hunt: Showdown 1896, a major update for Hunt that will be released on August 15.

That doesn't guarantee that Final Fantasy 16 will be available on PC anytime soon, but fans will note that head producer Yosi-P will be at gamescom, with an opening night live ceremony two weeks later on August 20 . Last year's ceremony featured quite a few announcements, so the possibility of Square Enix stopping by the event and helping ONL host Geoff Keighley announce a surprise PC release during the event does not seem out of the ordinary.

The presence of the FF16 demo on the list of driver profiles suggests that Square Enix may be planning to release a portion of the game first, with a full release a little later. The PlayStation 5 demo, released about 10 days before the official release, was a huge hit, but reviews of the full game were more muted, praising the boss battles but criticizing the storytelling and thin RPG mechanics. [Presumably Square Enix has not made any major changes to either for the PC release, but we may know for sure in a few weeks. Hopefully it won't be as disappointing as the port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
