Tony Pankhurst, actor and face of the curatorship of the Dark Pictures Anthology, has died.

Tony Pankhurst, the British actor best known for his role as The Curator in Supermassive Games' The Dark Pictures Anthology, has died at age 67.

Supermassive Games revealed the news on its Twitter account, saying, "We are all saddened to hear of Tony Pankhurst's passing. He was the voice of the curators and we loved working with him." A memorial page set up by Pankhurst's family states that the actor passed away on May 9.

Pankhurst appeared in every installment of the first season of The Dark Pictures anthology, beginning with "Medan's Man" in 2019. The Curator is the omniscient narrator of the anthology, recording the stories of the players as they experience the events of each game. The Curator often speaks directly to the player and adapts the choices the player makes throughout the series' individual horror stories.

Pankhurst's portrait is used as the basis for the Curator's appearance, with vocal acting and motion capture credit for the character going to another actor, Pip Torrence. Alongside the main Dark Pictures Anthology film, Pankhurst also appears in the live-action trailer for 2021's Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes, and the Curator makes a cameo appearance in the PSVR2 spin-off, Dark Pictures: He also appeared in Switchback VR.

The first season of the Dark Pictures anthology ended with the release of The Devil In Me in 2022. A second season is planned, with the first entry, Directive 8020, currently in production.

On Pankhurst's memorial page, his family described the actor as an "avid football fan" who supported Brighton Hove Albion FC and was a "Seagull to the core." His family also said they were "very grateful" for the donations to "Hospice in the Weald," which provided "love and support" during Pankhurst's final weeks. He was much loved and will always be remembered."
