Latest "Sims 4" Bug Fix Prevents Autonomous Incest Among Sims

I don't think anyone meant incest when they said they wanted their Sims to have more interesting lives, and EA didn't intend it either, so yesterday's Sims 4 patch addressed the tendency of Sims to suddenly try to pursue romance with their relations.

After the romance-focused expansion "Sims 4 Love Struck" and last week's update to the base game, several different bugs occurred, the two most prominent being that Sims were too mean to each other for no particular reason and that Sims were developing affairs with family members. This happened through the "Neighborhood Story" feature, which allows sims outside of the playing family to meet life milestones such as marriage, pregnancy, job change, or accidental death without your direction. In theory, if you want a more thriving community to develop around you, it is nice not to have to manage your own details.

It's not much better when your sim neighbor calls you for friendly advice on pursuing a crush and that crush is actually your sister. No, dear neighbor, please don't do this. Somehow, this is not nearly the first time a sim has accidentally wanted to date a family member.

Your Sims no longer have to be witnesses to forbidden love, and unique to the Lovestruck expansion, "Sims no longer receive inappropriate phone calls from relatives," says The Sims 4 patch notes. This hotfix was made on Friday for the PC version and yesterday for the console versions.

Incidentally, if you have never tinkered with your neighborhood story, you can click on the arrow symbol in the "Manage Households" menu to turn on the individual autonomous changes you want to allow other Sim families to make. The "Romance Changes" toggle should now be safely enabled.

If you have been keeping the EA app offline to avoid downloading the latest game updates for fear of a new base game bug that EA recently announced they are working on fixing, let this be a sign that something more troublesome is being tackled.
