Dragon Age: Actor to Play Protagonist in Vale Guard Says He's 'Honored but Challenged'

As the voice cast for Dragon Age: The Veilguard is announced, one of the voice actors for the main character Rook says the role is "an honor and a challenge" and that she is "terrified and excited." Erika Ishii, a longtime fan of the Dragon Age series, says she has been working on The Veilguard for over four years.

"I am both terrified and thrilled that the Dragon Age community will hear my voice in Thedas," Ishii said in X." He noted, "As a fan of the series, it is both an honor and a challenge to be a part of the game in any way, and I did my best to create a game that I would want to play.

Ishii has previously voiced Valkyrie in Apex Legends and Anna Bray in Destiny 2, and has participated in various streaming shows including Dimension 20 and Dropout's Game Changer.

The main character in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is Rook, and there are four voice actors there: Erika Ishii and Jeff Berg are Rook with American accents, and Bryony Corrigan and Alex Jordan are Rook with British accents. (Alex Jordan, of course, is the guy who voiced Sex in "Baldur's Gate 3. Sorry, Mr. Jordan, this will probably be cited for the rest of your career.)

Ishii also stated that he is particularly excited to be voicing "Dragon Age: The Veilguard."

"Additionally, as someone who self-identifies as gender-fluid, having the option to play as a trans or non-binary protagonist in a "Dragon Age" game means a lot to me. I can see as I wish and speak with my voice in a world that sees me for who I am," they said.

And that was probably a lot of voice acting work; BioWare recently revealed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard has about 140,000 lines of dialogue. 60,000 of those lines, according to the calculations of two BioWare developers, are just for the four Rooks.

Other recent news is that it is Steam Deck Verified, but it is unclear what that means for system requirements.
