According to a statement posted on X, indie-focused publisher Humble Games is “restructuring,” but the new structure will not involve its employees.

Earlier in the day, an employee of Humble Games said on LinkedIn that the publisher would be shutting down: “At 9am this morning, 36 employees of Humble Games were told that we were being laid off and that the company was closing. Another employee stated that everyone at Humble Games had lost their jobs.

A statement from the publisher said it was a “restructuring,” not a closure, and that it would continue to support developers with publishing agreements.

However, according to Chris Radley, a former Humble Games employee who left the company in 2022, the entire Humble Games staff has been replaced by a “third-party consultancy.”

Humble Games is known for publishing games like Void Bastards, Forager, and Signalis, and has signed deals with several upcoming games, including survival game Lost Skies and co-op heist game Monaco 2

Humble Bundle and Humble Games are both owned by media company Ziff Davis, which also owns gaming sites IGN, Rock Paper Shotgun, Eurogamer, and GamesIndustry.biz.

Last year was a bad year for job security in the gaming industry, and this year things have only gotten worse, with thousands laid off in January alone.
