Latest Patch Notes for “The Sims 4” Open the Door to Polyamorous Relationships and a Jealousy-Free Life

One of the new basic game features in The Sims 4, “Romantic Boundaries,” attempts to mimic “subtle and complex” real-life relationships by allowing players to tweak their sim's preferences regarding possessiveness and jealousy.

It will be included in the upcoming expansion “Lovestruck. According to the patch notes, “Sims can define the conditions under which they are jealous.

“These are located with the Gender and Sexual Orientation options in the Identity panel of Create-A-Sim and can be changed at any time.

There are different levels of jealousy that can currently be assigned to a sim: jealous of non-physical romance, jealous of physical romance, “WooHoo,” or if you don't want to deal with all the emotional turmoil, you can change them to not be jealous at all. However, this is not the default and must be changed for everyone you want to date. Otherwise, you will be diving head first into some serious romantic drama. If you want to keep things moving through gameplay, the new update also allows sims to change their opinions on romantic boundaries through conversations with other sims.

Polyamory may not be for everyone, but this update is going to be a big help for those who want that trait in their sims and don't want to pick and choose their partners.

“Finally! I'm sick of giving every sim in poly player traits as a workaround!” said one player in a Reddit thread. Prior to this recent patch, it was not possible to officially create polyamorous couples in The Sims 4. The only way players could get around this was to achieve a serial love desire and gain a trait that prevented it. Alternatively, they could copy-paste a cheat and automatically gain that trait without having to do anything.

However, if polyamory works too well, there is an option to hide relationships in the Relationships panel. In case your sims have too many lovers or crushes to scroll through, “you can delete those sims (who are not members of your household),” the patch notes say.

This new basic game feature also helps fix some frustrating bugs that were making sims jealous for no reason at all. “Some of my other sims constantly lose relationships because they think it's cheating if their partner is out in public,” says another player.

“I think it's better to have a smarter AI and stronger reactions, because then they'll think it's cheating.

The new update also adds a quicker and easier way to select outfits, simply by adding an “Apply All” button to a sim's accessories, hairstyles, and makeup. You can see how it works in the recent developer livestream.
