AMD postpones retail launch of Ryzen 9000 series for two weeks due to problems discovered with the first chips.

AMD has delayed commercial availability until August after problems were discovered with the first batch of its new Zen 5-powered Ryzen 9000 series processors.

The original launch date was July 31, but the company now aims to have the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X on store shelves by August 8 and the Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X by August 15.

AMD did not go into exact details about the defect in the first batch of Ryzen 9000 processors, but said the defect occurred in the final stage of checking. The defect was discovered after the company began shipping to partners in preparation for launch, which delayed production and shipping of another batch of new chips by several weeks.

This means that it will take a little longer to wait for both the chips themselves and news on how well they perform on our test benches, but there is no need to worry. [The full text of AMD's statement is as follows:

“We appreciate the excitement around the Ryzen 9000 series processors. Upon final review, we found that the initial production units shipped to our channel partners did not meet our quality expectations. In order to provide Ryzen users with the highest quality experience, we are working with our channel partners to replace the initial production units with new units.

This will result in a slight delay in retail availability. The Ryzen 7 9700X processor and Ryzen 5 9600X processor will be available on August 8, and the Ryzen 9 9950X processor and Ryzen 9 9900X processor will be available on August 15. We apologize for the wait. We pride ourselves on providing a high-quality experience for all Ryzen users and look forward to giving our fans a great experience with the new Ryzen 9000 series.”
