Sven Vincke, director of Baldur's Gate 3, says all the awards actually began to hinder development.

“Baldur's Gate 3” nearly swept all the game awards in 2023 and even carried its success into 2024 by winning the BAFTA award for best game in 2024, along with four other categories. But apparently winning almost every conceivable award is not for it.

In an interview with Edge (via GamesRadar), Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke said that the overwhelming success, especially at awards ceremonies, has actually been quite a hindrance to the developer's work. It affects development,” Vincke said. This was a real problem.” So to remedy the situation, Larian sent a “rotating team” to the various ceremonies to try to even out the time restraints

.

Even with the hassle of sending one team after another to countless ceremonies, Larian never wanted to shrug. He said, “It's great to have moments of celebration, because those are the ones that matter. Because they are important and we really appreciate them.”

2023 was an incredibly strong year for video games, with “Alan Wake 2,” “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” “Marvel's Spider-Man 2,” and the “Resident Evil 4” remake. This makes it all the more impressive that “Baldur's Gate 3” won so many awards.

But while these accolades may be big honors, Vinke still thinks that awards season could be organized a little better: “It would be cool if everyone agreed to win at the same time. It's amazingly mentally draining.” The development team is having a more difficult time because Baldur's Gate 3 is back in the conversation: “We're all more emotional because we're not getting closure. We want closure at the end of the project.” Hopefully, the big awards ceremony in 2023 is almost over and Larian's developers will be able to live more peaceful and quiet days with their new game winning all the awards.

As part of that closure, Vincke has expressed interest in talking about other things instead of constantly talking about “Baldur's Gate 3.” In the past, Vincke has discussed which other RPG series he is interested in and what the future holds for Larian Studios. Currently, Larian Studios' next project is code-named Excalibur, but Vincke is still “trying to figure out what the hell it is.”
