I really, really dislike regular 60% keyboards, but there is a lot to like about this little gaming keyboard. That was when I checked out the Mountain Everest 60 (April 2022), when I started my review of the Mountain Everest 60. I can't jump around the pages because I make too many mistakes while typing.

Thankfully, the smaller Everest 60 frame had room for a full-size cursor key, and the relationship grew from there. I'm a bit of a geeky keyboard geek, so I pulled out my lubricated Mountain Switch and was going to use my homemade Halo True switch: ...... until I started typing.

The Everest 60 and the attached switches feel great to type on. The dampening foam and silicone layers give it a great sound and feel, and the overall construction is excellent. My two sons spent time hitting both the mainboard and the removable numeric keypad without a scratch. [The removable numeric keypad exemplifies the Everest 60's practicality. Because not only does the board support both 3-pin and 5-pin connections and can be used with your choice of mechanical switches, but Mountain's Store also offers accessories. Most useful is the magnetic numeric keypad, which is hot-swappable as well.

They can also be mounted on either side of the board. When flapping through a benchmark spreadsheet, it makes much more sense to place the right hand on the mouse and the left hand on the numeric keypad. I don't know why the numeric keypad is traditionally on the right, but from now on I will always be a lefty on the numeric keypad.

This is an additional charge on top of the base price of the Everest 60, and you can also purchase PBT keycaps in different colors. But this is a keyboard that can evolve according to your maniacal keyboard obsession.

The only downside is that the software for the keyboard is pretty lousy; if you want to forget about RGB lighting and just light things on fire, that's not important.
