General
The Witcher 4 is currently in the “most advanced” stage of development at CD Projekt, ahead of The Witcher remake and Cyberpunk 2.

According to Pawel Sasko, associate game director at CD Projekt, “Polaris” (not the official title, but we call it that), also known as “The Witcher 4,” is the “most advanced” project currently underway at the studio. But don't get too excited at the thought of returning to the world of “The Witcher” anytime soon. All of the studio's games are still a long way off.

In an interview with Flow Games, Sasko listed CD Projekt's current major projects: “Canis Majoris,” a remake of “The Witcher” underway at the Polish studio Fool's Theory; CD Projekt's Boston Orion, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 led by CD Projekt's Boston studio; Polaris, a completely new Witcher game being developed primarily at CD Projekt's home studio in Warsaw; and a Witcher spin-off game, Polaris, being developed at Molasses Flood, also based in Boston. The “Witcher” spin-off game, “Sirius,” which is being produced at Molasses Flood, also based in Boston.

“Most of them are in the early stages,” says Sasco. The only difference is the Polaris project, or the new Witcher saga, which will go into production this year.” It is the most advanced of them all.

According to Sasko, a graph released by CD Projekt as part of its Q1 2024 earnings call also shows that Polaris has by far the most developers working on it, with Orion a close second. However, the Orion team is “growing,” he added.

Given that this is where CD Projekt is focusing its resources, it is not so surprising that “The Witcher 4” is ahead of other projects, but the time has come to hold our breath and wait in anticipation for new screenshots of Geralt in action should also not be taken as a sign that “The Witcher 4” is not the only project in the pipeline.

As for CD Projekt's other games, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is still in its early stages, with CD Projekt Red studio head Adam Badowski stating that it was at “concept design level” in October 2023. Canis Majoris, the Witcher remake, has not been heard much about since it was announced in 2022. The studio is also working on an entirely new one, codenamed Hadar, which was announced in late 2022 as “a completely separate third IP to be created from scratch within CDPR.”

CD Projekt also warned in 2021 that future games would not start showing off until “much closer” to release, a harsh lesson from “Cyberpunk 2077,” which was announced in 2012 but not released until 2020.
