The reason we like sale events like Prime Day is that they persuade retailers to lower the prices of gaming laptops, which were already quite competitive. Any of them, like the RTX 4070 gaming laptop below, have been affordable over the past few months, but thanks to Prime Day pressure, retailers across the country are discounting them further.

The cheapest RTX 4070 gaming laptop I found on Prime Day is the Acer Nitro 16, which sells for $1,130 at Newegg, a $70 savings.

This Nitro 16 is powered by a Ryzen 7 7735HS processor, paired with 16GB of DDR5 RAM. So far, so good. Combined with the core RTX 4070 mobile GPU, this laptop should be able to make good use of the 2,560 x 1,600 screen (16:10 aspect ratio for more viewing space) and 165 Hz refresh rate.

The only drawback to this Nitro model is that it comes with only a 512GB SSD. Nevertheless, this laptop has a space NVMe slot, so if you want to buy an inexpensive 1TB SSD and install it yourself, you can easily upgrade.

If you're not the tinkering type, replacing the Nitro 16 with an Acer Predator 14, which sells for $1,150 on Amazon, isn't too expensive. It has the same RTX 4070 GPU, except for the Core i7 13700H processor. It also has a 1600p screen, 16GB DDR5, and a 1TB SSD.

On the flip side, this is a 14” gaming laptop, which is compact enough to travel or take to the office, but can be a bit limited by the small screen for some games. The increased resolution and higher PPI (pixels per inch) help somewhat, but in “Hunt: Confrontation,” the small screen can make it difficult to see enemy players from a distance.

The HP Victus at the bottom of the page is sort of a 16-inch version of this Predator 14.

There is also the Asus TUF F15. It is available at Best Buy for $1,150. The screen is weaker at 1080p and 144Hz, but it has an Intel Core i7 13620H processor with a large SSD equivalent.

Given the choice, I would personally opt for the Nitro 16 or the Predator 14, but the more choices the better.
