The world's largest fighting game tournament, Evo, kicks off this weekend in Las Vegas, with more than 10,000 participants battling it out in eight different games for the top prize. Games such as “Tekken 8” and “Street Fighter 6” will put their names on the leaderboards of their respective games

It's one of my favorite times of the year, like Christmas with its dragon punch and healthy sweeps. This time of year makes me want to go back to my old favorite fighting games and try new ones. If you're in the same boat as me, you're in luck: Steam just started a “Fighting Game Fest” where a variety of fighting games are heavily discounted.

Many of these games are at their lowest prices according to SteamDB, but they were also at these prices during the recent Steam Summer Sale. Of the eight games on sale at EVO this weekend, all but “Street Fighter 6” and “3rd Strike” (playable on PC as part of the 30th Anniversary Collection) are on sale:

Of these, I would personally get “Tekken 8” and “Guilty Gear Strike” Guilty Gear Strike. The former is the only 3D fighting game at the moment (sorry Soul Calibur), and despite some incredibly frustrating monetization choices, it's still my pick for a game that practically beats the crap out of others. Guilty Gear Strive, on the other hand, is a 2D anime fighting game with gorgeous visuals and incredibly cool characters. It has a thriving community and is one of the most popular choices, especially on the competitive level, along with Tekken and Street Fighter.

One noteworthy, though not evo, is “Dragon Ball FighterZ,” which is currently 84% off. It is unfortunate that the price is down 1% from the previous record low set in March, but it is still worth every penny. Soul Calibur 6” is also at a low of 90% off. Don't tell Tekken players, but it's an excellent 3D fighter in my book, but unfortunately I was disappointed by the shockingly awful online netcode and the competitive scenes that were not at all exciting during Covid. If you don't care too much about jumping online and playing against other real people, it's well worth getting.

Many other fighting games are on sale. Smash-like Rivals of Aether, Dead or Alive 6, Samurai Shodown, etc.

The sale runs until 10 a.m. PST on July 22, which is plenty of time to sneak in and grab a few games, even if you end up getting into fighting games at Evo.
