3 Prime Day Deals Worth Buying Before the “GPU Buying Scare” Next Generation Cards

With next-generation GPUs like Nvidia's Blackwell-based cards rumored to be just around the corner, you may be wondering if now is a good time to buy a new graphics card. After all, if new models are coming soon, what's the point in putting money aside now when hot new silicon is likely to be available later this year?

Well, if we follow tradition, what we are likely to see in this year's GPU releases are the top two models, presumably called RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. Since mid-range and low-end cards usually take much longer to appear, it is very likely that we will not see the RTX 5070 or anything similar until this time next year.

In the meantime, there are plenty of games to play. And you will want something powerful now as a bridge until a new card comes along that may replace it, and even then you may want to skip a generation.

After all, the current midrange cards are quite good, and if you buy wisely now, they may last much longer than you think.

We've selected three of the Amazon Prime Day GPU deals that we think are worth buying today, either as a bridge until the next-generation successor arrives or for longer.

It took a while for the RTX 4070 to get a decent discount, but, well, that's about it; Nvidia's mid-range cards may have been replaced by the RTX 4070, or Super, but this year's sale has seen original prices drop to very You'll see them down to reasonable prices.

This Gigabyte Gaming OC V2 model is available now at Newegg for $500, the cheapest we could find. Not only is it still a great mid-range GPU as of this writing, but thanks to DLSS 3, it should be hitting great frame rates for some time to come, including when its successor eventually comes out. It has been a great card since its release and will be for some time yet.

I wanted to include the RX 7800 XT here, but opted for the slightly faster RX 7900 GRE instead. It's basically a cut-down version of the RX 7900 XT, and while this generation of AMD cards are not the best for ray tracing, the overwhelming raster performance for $510 on the Newegg is hard to pass up.

Furthermore, FSR 3.1 seems to be a decent improvement over previous versions, but time will tell if developers will adopt it properly; it may not be the magic bullet of DLSS, but combined with the performance here, this card I think we can expect to see it for some time to come. [and finally, what about the RTX 4070 Ti Super, the RTX 4080 Super is a powerful card, but still priced around $950-$1000.

However, the RTX 4070 Ti Super still feels like a bargain, especially when you can find it for $760 like this Zotac model. it is the same AD103 GPU as the RTX 4080, and while it loses out to its big brother in benchmarks, at a significantly lower price It makes a compelling argument by offering a large amount of graphics performance.

There is no doubt that this will be a very good card next year.

If I were to buy a new GPU today, it would be one of these beautiful cards. Remember, there are a lot of great games to play right now, and there are always new and exciting ones coming out. If you want to upgrade right now, I think these GPUs are your best bet.
