Walton Goggins nominated for Emmy Award for “Outstanding Actor” for his role as a sexy nosy mutant in “Fallout”.

Amazon's “Fallout” series has proven to be a huge hit and critics love it. The show has been nominated for 16 Emmy Awards, including two big ones: Outstanding Drama Series, which Walton Goggins won, and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Most of the categories in which “Fallout” is nominated are generally awarded off-camera, such as “Outstanding Period or Fantasy/Sci-fi Makeup (Non-Prosthetic)” and “Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour),” which most people have never heard of. However, it also won awards for Best Special Visual Effects, Best Stunt Performance, and Best Screenplay for a Drama Series.

The highlight was a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series, which is great but unfortunately unlikely to win. The competition is stiff, with “Shogun” (in the words of our own Joshua Warrens, “a show about a guy who has trouble with boats and crashes in Japan”), “3 Body Problems,” “Mr. And. Mrs. Smith,” ‘Slow Horse,’ ‘The Crown,’ ‘The Jilled Age,’ and ”The Morning Show. I won't pretend to have seen any of them, but the general consensus seems to be that “Shogun” is the one to beat and will not be beaten.

Goggins faces an equally difficult situation in the Best Actor category. Other nominees include Idris Elba for “Hijack,” Donald Glover for “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” Gary Oldman for “Slow Horse,” Hiroyuki Sanada for “Shogun,” and Dominic West for “The Crown.” Again, I haven't seen it, so I don't know, but it's a ridiculously sexy lineup.

There seems to be a bit of confusion about how many categories “Fallout” is nominated for: Amazon claims 17, but the Emmy website lists 16. Amazon claims 17, but the Emmy website lists 16:

The studio said on Twitter that it is “humbled and grateful for the recognition our shows have received.”

As someone who has been around long enough to remember Uwe Boll punching Roatax for being so outspoken about his film, it is a little hard to believe that I am saying this, but the impressive Emmy performance of “Fallout” is not unprecedented for a video game adaptation It is not unprecedented for a video game adaptation.

“Arcane,” the animated series based on “League of Legends,” became the first show based on a video game to win an Emmy in 2022, and “The Last of Us” won a whopping eight Emmy Awards in 2023. Even if it misses out on the award, with 16 nominations, there is a good chance it could keep the momentum going in 2024.

The 2024 Emmys will air on September 15.
