When you think of Dyson, you probably think of vacuum cleaners. Or perhaps you think of the hand dryers in the toilets of upscale pubs that go up and down your hand. But think again! Noise-canceling headphones have been announced.

The Dyson OnTrac headphones are not Dyson's first attempt at a headphone. However, the design of the OnTrac suggests that style is a top priority for the latest model.

The outer casing comes in four different colors, but the options don't stop there (via The Verge). You can also choose ear cushions, and the outer panel is available in metallic or matte finishes.

This is for the additional plate. The headphones themselves have an MSRP of $500, so expect premium features for that amount. According to Dyson, the OnTrac has “best-in-class” noise cancellation with eight external microphones and a companion app that monitors ambient noise.

The 40 mm drivers are rated from 5 Hz to 21 kHz and are tilted inward toward the ear canal (British for ear) for direct sound. A foldable carrying case is also included, which seems like a really useful idea.

Headphone carrying cases are great when protecting the headphones, but they often take up a lot of room in a bag when the headphones are worn. Dyson has developed an innovative product. Not just things that suck and blow.

But what I really don't agree with is the look from the front. The large bronze plate in the version above has a certain retro sci-fi appeal despite its size, but from the front, it looks ...... It is not beautiful.

It appears to have the same headband design as the Dyson Zone, which looks comfortable, but I don't know if it will look plumper than usual in public. Ontrack is also competing with Bang & Olufsen's Beoplay Portal, which is more expensive headgear, but it performs better.

They are even more expensive than Nuraphone's ANC headphones, but the drawback would be that they inspect the inside of your ears every time you put them on.

Still, time will tell if they are any good. Big headphones seem to be all the rage, but these might be the kind of Dyson headphones you'd want to wear in public. They might be.

Or, if you prefer a Princess Leia vibe, they might be perfect for your Halloween costume. We'll give you that idea for free. You're welcome.
