Whether or not we will see penises in Dragon Age: The Veil Guard is apparently a spoiler.

Game Informer magazine spotted boobs. Specifically, they spotted a character creator for Dragon Age: The Veilguard with a nude upper body. This is the most blatant nudity the Dragon Age series has ever presented.

"This is a mature RPG," game director Corinne Bush told the magazine.

However, the character creator does not depict any private anatomy from the waist down, and according to Game Informer, when BioWare was asked if the RPG would include full nudity (e.g., romance scenes), the developer said, "It's something fans themselves I'd like them to discover it themselves."

I had to read it a couple of times to get it right: "BioWare wants players to discover for themselves whether Dragon Age: The Veilguard has penises and vaginas! Game Informer itself states that "it's an interesting answer, given that we're talking about genitalia," but does not provide a clear explanation.

Not long ago, I would have just assumed the answer would be no. Once, when the half-naked characters in "Mass Effect" awkwardly climbed over each other, the cable news buffoons had a field day, and we've come to expect a cautious attitude from major publishers. But Larian held nothing back in last year's "Baldur's Gate 3," and if there were any adverse effects, they are not evident. [Whether or not testicles are visible doesn't seem like something that should be treated as a spoiler, but maybe the story really does go places. In any case, many people will want to know before playing: Baldur's Gate 3 is up front about nudity, and there are settings that hide it.

Since that is the case, my guess is that "The Veilguard" will probably not show anything below the belt. As we now know, toplessness will definitely make an appearance. However, as a member of the "nipple free" camp, I am reluctant to associate that with the "mature" tone they are going for. (Well, I guess BioWare's game implies sex, but you get the point.)

Thanks to Game Informer's coverage, this week we also learned new details about Veilguard's difficulty options (you can turn off death altogether) and how to develop a relationship with your companion. There is also information about character creators.
