Star Citizen is free this week.

General
Star Citizen is free this week.

After raising a huge amount of money through crowdfunding, "Star Citizen" is once again hosting a free-fly event: until July 19, you can try out as many of the 10 different spaceships as you like in developer Cloud Imperium's sandbox.

This special free week is an in-game world event called the "Foundation Festival," a sort of civic pride celebration for Star Citizen. As part of the festival, the experience for new players will be enhanced, along with a new guide system that connects veteran players with new ones. Those who attend a guide session during the festival will receive bonuses on armor and weapons.

If you're wondering right now if Star Citizen will actually run on your machine, take a look at the technical requirements: but remember that these are guidelines rather than actual rules; it may say you need 16GB of RAM, though, You won't be able to enjoy it with less than 32 GB.

Star Citizen is finally pushing toward the 1.0 goal, said director Chris Roberts earlier this year. As part of that, Pyro, the outlaw and smuggler star system, will be released later this year; Pyro will focus on features like industrial gameplay, vehicle combat, cargo hauling, and medical missions, and will offer highly challenging master mode missions.

You can get started right away by clicking the "Enlist" button on the "Star Citizen" fly-free page; the Foundation Festival 2024 page has more details on the free trial.
