Mortal Kombat" Player Wins $565, Celebrates by Breaking $3,000 Worth of Light Fixtures

Update: Jebaily tweeted that the light was not completely replaced, but could be repaired, and quickly reached an agreement with Dillock to pay $365.44 for labor and parts. That still didn't change the fact that he had wasted most of his winnings, but at least it didn't put him in debt to the tournament.

Original Article Mortal Kombat player Dyloch managed to cover up his own Mortal Kombat 1 tournament win at the CEO 2024 Fighting Game Championship with the stupidest and most expensive post-game celebration ever. Immediately after landing the killing blow on his opponent Rewind, he stood up, picked up a chair, threw it off the stage, and accidentally broke a light fixture.

Was he researching a new furniture-based fatality? Or did he think he was being ambushed by four vampires and attempt to stake them all with a four-legged attack?

Whatever the reason, he did something foolish in what should have been a moment of triumph. His prize money was $565, but event director (and longtime influential figure in the fighting game community) Alex Jebailly noted that the lights he broke were worth nearly $3,000.

"Anyone know @RezDyloch's PayPal because someone paid for that broken light fixture and it wasn't me," he tweeted, "and if one more person throws something and jumps off, you will be banned from any event I do." He continued.

This is both a direct condemnation of Dyloch's actions and a warning to other players. Perhaps it is, at least in part, a reaction to Hungrybox, the Super Smash Bros. player who had an over-the-top celebration. But the downside of this is that there is still a lot of immature behavior at events, both on and off stage. While "don't throw your chair at the light fixture" seems like a pretty low bar, now, in 2024, the event winner could be minus $2,435 in prize money.

However, Dirok certainly has few defenders on social media right now, and there is no doubt that the stupidity of his actions has been recognized on the field. On the other hand, he has 2,435 reasons not to do the same thing again.
