My take on SoulLikes is that basically assigning stat points to a Vigor is an act of submission. After all, your goal should be to not get hit at all, i.e., if you play optimally, you shouldn't need a single hit point.
That is a horrible philosophy and brings me nothing but pain. Yes, I intend to play "Shadow of the Elder Tree" in the same way. Thanks.
Anyway, this is not just my attitude, but an ideology shared by FromSoft folk heroes like Let Me Solo Her, the urn-headed guardian angel who takes on the game's most difficult bosses in a loincloth (and urn). Other showrunners have said that the Stranger (a.k.a. Kimir) in "Star Wars: Acolyte" was inspired by the legend of the Elden Ring.
In an interview with Inverse, Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland said the staff "lost their minds" when she suggested Qimir be armorless. However, Headland countered, "Why wear armor if you can't take a beating?" and compared Qimir's costume to "the Elden Ring costume. When [the Elden Ring] summons a person, it always summons a person wearing nothing.
I can see that. Certainly, Stranger does not sashay around in a loincloth like the legendary Elden Ring hero, but he is certainly quite thinly armored. More to the point, what he has on his head is downright bulbous. You might even say it looks like a jar; do you think he knew he'd have that kind of influence when he first donned the iconic helmet in 2022?
On Elden Ring and the true warrior philosophy that underpins both Qimir's design and my own approach to the FromSoft game (come to think of it, we're basically the same guy), Headland said. We must not back down or panic. We must be aggressive. We must attack aggressively." [That's exactly why when we got to "Shadow of the Eldest Trees," we continued with the philosophy of Vigorless and Armorless. Otherwise, we will follow the Jedi lie.
