The "Dead Space" x "Battlefield 2042" crossover event is not exactly what "Dead Space" fans were hoping for, but it sounds like fun.

Something to make you say "huh": Battlefield 2042 will host a "Dead Space" crossover event for one week only.

The mode is called Outbreak and will be playable by shooters from July 9-16.

Judging from the trailer above, Outbreak is a typical cooperative horde mode. It is interesting to see Isaac Clarke fighting alongside regular soldiers.

"In Outbreak, squads test their human resilience and resourcefulness against new and relentless enemies as they attempt to escape the Boreas Institute," says EA.

What makes this event a bit surprising is that "Battlefield 2042" is more or less finished, no new season is planned, and most of EA's Battlefield development force at DICE and elsewhere is currently working on the next installment in the series That's what I'm talking about. And after Motive's good "Dead Space" remake, it seems unlikely that "Dead Space 2" will get the same treatment.

Some Dead Space fans have taken the crossover as a signal to spit out their desire for a Dead Space 2 remake, with Motive himself saying of the event: "A Dead Space event at Battlefield is a welcome addition! You're more than welcome to do it!"

.

Aside from what comes next for Battlefield, Motive is currently working on an Iron Man game.

As for Battlefield 2042, I haven't played much of it recently, but I did enjoy this highly criticized FPS when it was released, even before DICE's lengthy revisionist campaign.

"Battlefield 2042" is now only $5 on Steam, but I think it's well worth the price, whether or not there's a crossover with "Dead Space" next week.
