David Hasselhoff, dressed in an old leather jacket and KITT from "Knight Rider," calls on gamers to "grab a joystick" and fight global warming.

David Hasselhoff said to the camera. Hoff, that's got me thinking. Not content with a bit part in the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Baywatch and Knight Rider star has now set his sights on climate change.

Hasselhoff is the face of a new campaign called Make Green Tuesday Moves (MGTM), a "video game climate change alliance." Under MGTM, "proceeds from the sale of in-game items (new and/or upcycled DLC products such as characters, costumes, objects, etc.) will be invested in fully certified sustainability projects by the non-profit digital platform PlanetPlay.

In other words, you buy DLC and donate it to a good cause. The games involved are casual titles from the Google Play store, called Bowling Club, Hunt Royale, Peridot, Tile Dynasty, etc., which doesn't make much sense to me, but in terms of global audience, than a crossover with Deep Rock Galactic would make more sense. A complete list of games and partners can be found here.

Activities supported by the campaign include "the Hongera Project, which helps Kenyan families improve their living conditions by manufacturing and distributing clean cook stoves, and the WAI Wanaka water conservation project in New Zealand."

"As someone who has entertained audiences around the world for years, I know the power of influence," says David Hasselhoff.

"Climate change is not a distant threat, it's here and now, and by joining the Make Green Tuesday Moves initiative, we can turn our daily game into a force for good. Let's make every play for the planet. Together, we can leave a sustainable legacy for future generations. Let's be cool, be green, and make a difference.

This press release also introduced me to the concept of "passive activism." [Google's Tamsin Taylor called MGTM "a great example of how the gaming industry can leverage its massive reach to make a positive impact."

Rhea Loucas, CEO of PlanetPlay, said Hasselhoff's star power has allowed "millions of players to join us in our mission to keep global warming below the 1.5 degree Celsius threshold."

One has to admire Hasselhoff's enthusiasm for throwing himself into something like this, even if he thinks everyone still uses joysticks. 'Hey gamers, it's David Hasselhoff. 'Your playing time will turn into green time, eliminating pollution and healing the planet one spectacular item at a time. Now grab your joysticks and play!"

Still, the game is still in its infancy.

And if that's not enough: ...... Hasselhoff also made a video of himself in his old Knight Rider outfit, and yes, he ends up right next to KITT, and yes, KITT ends up agreeing that everyone should fight global warming. If this doesn't convince you to save the world, nothing will.
