It may not have the brand recognition of a WD or Lexar, but this Nextorage drive has more pedigree than you might expect.

Nextorage was originally founded by Sony to produce SSDs for the PlayStation 5. However, Phison, an absolute heavyweight in the SSD business, bought out Nextorage's shares. As a result, Nextorage began manufacturing drives using the Phison E18 controller, and the SSDs offered by Phison, which became known to those in the know, began to deliver superior performance.

The proof is in the performance. This Nextorage 2 TB drive delivers 7,300 MB/s read and 6,900 MB/s write, and as our review revealed, it performs extremely fast. This is thanks to 2 TB of high-quality TLC NAND memory and 2 GB of DDR4 cache combined with a legendary controller.

While not the fastest Gen 4 drive, especially when it comes to 4K writes, it still delivers performance on par with serious competitors. This model also comes with a large heatsink to keep it cool for sustained performance. Regarding

, while it is technically possible to remove the heatsink in order to install the NEM-PA into a laptop, Nextorage does not provide a warranty after disassembly. Anyone thinking of pushing a drive into a location where the heatsink is not appropriate may want to consider the warranty implications before doing so.
