Digital Board Game "Dune": Imperium" Expansion "Rise of Ix" Coming in July

Earlier this year we got the excellent board game Dune: Imperium, which was released digitally and seems to have been a sufficient success. In this case, the "more" is the digitalization of the expansion "Rise of Ix," previously exclusive to Meat Space, which broadens the game with six new leaders, new spaces on the board, and new tools for the struggle for Arrakis.

Most notable is the new military asset, the Dreadnought, which allows players to overwhelm their enemies. Infiltrators are also introduced, a new route to understanding what the enemy is doing and why. Perhaps most exciting is the addition of an epic game mode that allows for extended play.

Here's what I think about "Dune:" Imperium is, in my opinion, one of the best of the recent wave of "Dune" stuff spawned by Denis Villeneuve's big screen adaptation, even compared to the legendary "Dune" board games of the 1970s, It's good enough to stand up to the legendary "Dune" board games of the 70's.

"It's a fascinating combination of a worker placement board game and the hidden information achieved by letting you build a deck of commands to draw from each turn," I said in my impression article at the time of Dune: Dune:Imperium's first digital release. I wrote about it. I have played it more since then and really stand by that statement, especially in the digital version.

Developer Dire Wolf also announced that cross-platform play is coming to Dune: Imperium. Rise of Ix, an expansion, will be released on Steam in late July. Steam is also offering 20% off ($18.40) on the base game during its summer sale.
