Final Fantasy 14 Producer Yosi-P Apologizes for Technical Problems in Early Access to Dawntrail Expansion

Final Fantasy 14 producer Naoki Yoshida has issued an apology for some notable technical issues that occurred during early access testing of the latest expansion.

The biggest problem currently is the Xbox version of Dawntrail, which sometimes stops responding when transitioning between different areas, such as leaving town or moving between field locations. The developers have investigated that it may be a memory fragmentation issue, and for now they recommend that players stay in less populated worlds to avoid this. A fix for this is in the pipe.

There are also issues with the way animations play, the way certain characters are displayed, and the freeze mechanism in some dungeons, such as the Syrcus Tower alliance raid. These fixes are also in progress and will be fixed in a client patch.

"Despite our efforts to fix and tweak the graphics in the last moments before Dawntrail's release, these issues were unfortunately discovered late in the process. We apologize," said Yoshida.

While it may seem a bit dramatic to apologize for a glaring, if not world-destroying, bug in a public testing setting, Yoshida is very sincere about avoiding major problems at the launch of Dawntrail and is committed to the refinement and perfection of the In the name of doing so, he even refused to specify a specific release date for a long time.

And overall, Dawntrail has been a hit, with PC Gamer feature producer Mollie Taylor praising how stable the servers are, noting that despite queues of up to 1,000 people, wait times were not that long.

Meanwhile, news writer Harvey Randall wrote that the graphics overhaul that took place at the same time as Dawntrail was a huge boon to the now 11-year-old MMO. He specifically highlighted the lighting changes as an impressive upgrade for the older areas of Eorzea.

"The overhaul has greatly improved the look of previous expansions. Ishgard now feels appropriately chilly, and the kaleidoscopic colors of Kugane are actually, well, visible without third-party tools.

In any case, if you haven't seen the issue at all and would like to ponder a more productive mystery, I would like to know what is going on with the gimp suits in Dawntrail and if they are relevant to the story.
