Helldivers CCO Johan Pilestedt does not take sole responsibility for the latest good patch, but reminds the players (twice) that "I want to be clear that I didn't cook."

Helldivers2 has recently enjoyed a massive balance patch, upgrading weapon damage across the board, reducing the amount of heavy enemies in favor of more Mook,

It may be easy to credit this latest wave of tweaks to the divine influence of the new auteur, given that Helldivers2's former CEO Johan Pilestedt not only stated that he wanted to reassess the balance of the game, but also took a technical demotion to become the studio's chief creative officer. 'Pilestedt's has rolled up his sleeves and sorted things out!

Alas, it takes quite a lot of people to make a video game, and Pilestedt wants you to know it. "Thanks, but I have to be clear that I didn't cook," the now-CCO wrote in a reply to a very free Reddit thread (thanks, GamesRadar) last week, "I just gave a gentle nudge." The idea and execution for this is the team."

Five days later, informal accolades are still coming — leading pilestedt to take to his Twitter and reaffirm that he is not the one chosen and writes: "I have seen many people give me a lot of credit for this patch as if I were the only one responsible." I want to make it clear that the team is what made it happen. None of this would have been possible without their efforts, design sensibility, diligence and passion."

I think it's very likely that Pilestedt could be humble here and that prudent leadership has helped lead a good ship Helldivers2 in the right direction, but Arrowhead employs more than 100 people and the live-service game, especially with a lot of moving parts, is very complex to balance and it's very difficult to get everything on deck." You need all your hands.

As a matter of fact, let's go ahead and tie a few red strings loosely to a few pins on the cork board: Helldivers2 publicly announced its intention to create a more detailed patch, with a frequency of late May, while Pilestedt announced his new role almost simultaneously. Given the size of the patch, I'm very betting that the development team has been working on the components for over 22 days.

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole studio chose to go in this new direction with him — the horror of the game's fateful PSN network review and the less well-received Warbond could both be rocking the boat.
