737 days since the last Silksong news, and not a whisper from Nintendo Direct this year - I'd like to say that fans are coping well, but y'know

It's been over 700 days since I heard something about Silksong, but no one really holds it together. Despite being the Hook, Line and Sinker, the sequel to Hollow Knight, one of the most beloved Metroid Bunia of the past 10 years, its hapless follow-up has basically been absent since its 2019 announcement.Breathe in only once with the xbox showcase in 2022.

It also didn't make an appearance during the summer gamefest, so for the last skongers still holding hope, Nintendo Direct stood as the last bastion of the news. I say it — the atmosphere before the show was a bit harsh, and Silksong subreddit user E1331 was publicly sacrificed by mods hanging out to bite the team Cherry logo, while other memes were less corporal punishment, but equally pessimistic.

As you guessed in the headline, direct came, went, disappeared at night, sadly, there was no news, even though one determined viewer threatened to "give birth if they don't announce it." I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Youtube commenters Cody & Zach Antz on their new blessed child, who is expected to graduate before Silksong leaves.

In another era, would I characterize the community as a group of scrappy, die-hard underdogs with fists raised and everything you got? Splattered from their split bloody lips. But what I feel now is like watching a very sad clown standing knee-deep in a puddle, with the same track circling around the block and being swept away by rainwater. Speaking of clowns, that is a common theme.

"Dudes the insanity is funny and all but I can't even lie to you man, utterly disappointed in getting the news on this year's showcase, zero communication from Team Cherry and their very vague hints being released (or not) that stuff like this isn't really funny and just straight-forward. I'm starting to be disappointed,"" wrote one player in a thread explaining why the modding of the subreddit, which I imagine is currently under siege, has manually approved all text posts.

"We got Metroid Prime4 before Silksong," another paralyzed player wrote. As for the context, Metroid Prime4 was announced in 2017 and reportedly resumed development in 2019, with little whispers until now.

Listen. Silksong will probably come out (maybe, maybe). What we saw in 2022 looked like it was going well, but there was a small, small, optimistic sliver of my mind that was hoping to get the news today. Maybe it's really released in 9998, after all.
