Brandon Keener, the man behind the voice of Garrus Vakarian, Commander Shepard's number One man in the Mass Effect series, portrays fellow (and potential number one man) Kai in Obsidian's upcoming RPG.

Keener's role at Akowed first came to light last week thanks to @PoweredbyidTech on Twitter. Obsidian essentially confirmed the casting (or at least suggested it quite definitely) a few days later:

Kai narrates the Avowed gameplay trailer released in 2023, and keener's appearance in the game first came to light. I had an unexpectedly immediate and visceral reaction when I heard him in the role of a guest on some US police procedural many years ago to see if I could pick his voice ("It's Garrus!"I cried, literally while my partner was giving me a look, I thought I'd be able to pick him very easily in the screaming video.

Keener's voice as Kai can be heard in the much newer Avowed deep dive that aired after the recent Xbox Games Showcase." You can also use the following methods:

For the record, I haven't played Avowed yet, or even seen all the prerelease stuff, but I'm going to say so, this is the right casting.

Last Note: The Eternal Unofficial Pillar wiki describes the parrot as a "semi-quatic humanoid," so Kai is not really a fish man in the strict sense, but Garrus is not really a bird. Sometimes you just need to roll with these things.
