"Sekiro was a big turning point": After the Elden Ring, Hidetaka Miyazaki says, "There is another level."

Sekiro: If you've ever played Shadows Die Twice, you'll probably remember how rhythmic and fluid the battle is. Armed with samurai swords and prosthetic hands, you are more responsible for precise timing and placed on dancing around your opponent than you can find in other soul games. But this style is not as one-off as it may seem. Later souls games like Elden Ring certainly share some DNA, but Studio president Hidetaka Miyazaki says the future of souls games builds what Sekiro has tried to perfect.

In an interview with Game Informer, Miyazaki talks about how the relationship between attack and defense in battle has changed."

I found that one of the most important changes to combat in Sekiro is the attitude meter that fills up every time you block an enemy attack. Just blocking without a break will fill the meter and make it vulnerable to attack. At first, I tried to back up and slow down the fight from the end, but this only worked against me because the Sekiro enemy is so angry. After I decided to take part in a rhythmic fight and go to the flow instead of literally hanging back and expecting an opening, I finally actually started making some ground.

"Perhaps, at Sekiro, it is the clearest form that seems more obvious or I think philosophy can embody," Miyazaki says. I can certainly see this style in recent souls games like Elden Ring, but parrying and dodging feel more fluid and there's some rhythm to the attack. But it's also probably a symptom of resorting to spells and summoning.

But just because the battle of the Elden Ring may not be identical to Sekiro's doesn't mean that FromSoft missed the idea altogether: "Personally,

recently heard a lot of discussion about the idea of the future of Softgames and Miyazaki said that he still had his "ideal fantasy". I feel as if I'm trying to capture a Gee RPG.In this interview, Miyazaki said, "Elden Ring is not quite that, but it is approaching."And while he could not mention any further details for fear of ruining the upcoming game, it would return to Sekiro's fighting style, or at least

."
