Elf Ring: The shadow of the red tree is as hard as a nail, Miyazaki says: "We really pushed the envelope in terms of what we think the player can withstand."

DLC day is finally on us, but we're debating whether players have what they need to fight new enemies before they dive into Erdtree's Elden Ring Shadow.

Except for speedrunners and benevolent mages, anyone trying to dunk a Moog should be around level 100-120. Elden Ring has been around for more than two years now, however, and some players may be a little too ready for the fight ahead.

PC Gamer editor Fraser Brown entered the DLC with his overwhelming NG+Blasphemous Blade build and found it to be a cake. But after picking a fresh start, Shadow of The Erdtree just started beating him up.

For those looking for that sweet spot, studio director Hidetaka Miyazaki suggests it's hard to over-prepare. "We really pushed the limits on what we think players can endure," Miyazaki said in an interview with CNET.

Not all bosses seem to be a dangerous battle for your life as they obviously differ in difficulty, but the DLC has already made the base game

"Of course, some bosses are a necessary part of the story's development and arc, but some are not," says Miyazaki. It's a good idea. "I think those that don't are particularly difficult, but [they] will bring very good challenges and obstacles for the players."It sounds like players get a new and improved Malenia to spend the day of their lives trying to beat. As of last year, Malenia had cruelly reminded players that she was the blade of Miquella more than 3 billion times, and to this day only 35.9% of the players were able to defeat her, so it's pretty scary to imagine a boss harder than her.

Tough boss fights are part of the twisted fun of the game of Thrones because you'll be pulling out most of your hair: especially the Elden Ring. When asked if FromSoftware was considering what players were having fun or too stressful in the base game, Miyazaki said its aim was to balance that but, if not, sorry!"
