Ryzen 9000 X3D chips could be available by September, just three months after AMD's Zen 5 announcement.

Computex 2024 was a fairly decent show, despite the AI products gracing every booth, thanks to AMD and Intel announcing some tasty new CPU architectures. PC gamers, however, were hoping to see AMD announce a 3D V-cache model along with a Ryzen 9000 chip, but to no avail. However, according to one rumor currently circulating, a 9000 X3D variant will be available as early as September.

The source of this rumor is Club386, and we spoke to an unnamed person at Computex who claims that AMD is planning to launch a version of the new Ryzen 9000 processor with 3D V-cache in September. When we spoke to AMD at Computex, they did not say anything about a release date, but did confirm that they are "actively working on some really cool differentiators to make it even better."

Three months would be a bit of a record for AMD and the introduction of X3D variants after the new architecture is announced. For example, the time gap between the Zen 3 and Ryzen 7 5800X3D announcements was about 18 months, and almost 6 months between the Zen 4 and Ryzen 9 7950X3D announcements. By comparison, three months is just a blink of an eye.

This is not surprising if true, as 3D V-cache is not a brand new technology, and it has been more than two years since AMD started adding 64MB of L3 cache to some of its processors, so before the chip giant hits our wallets again with a new batch of X3D CPUs It is quite possible that they are waiting for the usual October sales to shift their older products.

Since the first models in the Ryzen 9000 series have already been announced, it's not too hard to guess which models will feature 3D V-cache variants: the 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D, the 12-core 9900X3D, or the 8-core 9800X3D. almost certain to be announced, but what about mid-range processors?

After all, AMD has described it as a "cool differentiator" when describing what improvements it will bring to cache technology, so it is possible that the Ryzen 5 9600X3D will appear at some point this year.

However, such a product might take sales away from the standard Ryzen 7 9700X, especially if the 9600X3D has better gaming performance and is priced similarly. However, AMD's use of different amounts of 3D V-cache in the new 9000 series may curb the former

.

For example, the top-end 9950X3D could top off both CCDs under the heatsink with some extra L3 cache, not just one as the current 7950X3D does. to make the 9600X3D fit better in its sector, 64 MB of extra cache, instead of just 32MB, as the 9600X3D fits better in its sector.

It is all speculation at this stage, as AMD is very tight-lipped about it all, and motherboard partners have not offered any particular hints or tips.

However, given that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the best gaming CPU you can buy today, and the Zen 5 is that much more powerful than the Zen 4, unless Intel's Arrow Lake is a significant improvement over Raptor Lake, AMD is likely to make Ryzen 9000X3D model, I strongly suspect that it will again top the gaming charts.
