The Starfield players think "something big is going on behind the scenes", but it's probably an expansion of the shattered space going forward

Is now happening in the Starfield community as some players have discovered some activity going on with the guy behind the space curtain

"Something big is happening behind the scenes," user Jarusintestars said in a post to the game's subreddit. "It's pointless to try to decipher the SteamDB change log, but there's one thing I'm sure from experience: When there's a lot of changes, something big is coming."1 For example, there were about 2-3 changes between the 50 and 60 month updates. And between the 3rd and 5th month updates about 100. We've surpassed that figure in almost less than a month."They theorize that this probably has something to do with the Shattered Space expansion being shown off at the Xbox showcase on 6/9.

There is certainly a thread to be drawn between increased changelog activity and the arrival of shattered spatial extensions, but this is not exactly groundbreaking. We knew this would be an extension of Starfield's first story, first mentioned in an ad for the Starfield Collector's Edition (known as the Constellation Edition) for almost a year.

We've also recently heard from Todd Howard that Shattered Space will arrive in late 2024. In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Howard said that a major update to Starfield should be released soon and that Shattered Space is expected to be released in the fall."This is a pretty low way to reveal the release window of what could be a pretty remarkable expansion, but at least we're looking at what and when

So, of course, we expect to see something about Shattered Space in the next Xbox showcase. In fact, I would be quite concerned about Bethesda if they chose not to mention it at all instead.

However, rather than focusing on whether the Shattered Space is on the horizon, most players in the thread are worried about when the Starfield Creation Kit will be released "If you release a CK before the DLC, the DLC will break all these mods," one player says. "With or without crushed space, it makes sense to free it."

Bethesda may want to avoid another Fallout4 scenario — for context, after releasing the "next generation" mod for Fallout4 (breaking a fan's favorite mod and a project like Fallout London), it makes sense for Bethesda to play safely in the future — first to break the mod, then to play with it."
