Ubisoft adds another studio to what looks like an increasingly desperate effort to finally complete the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

1 year after announcing that work on the long-struggling Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake had begun with square one, Ubisoft locked another studio in it: Ubisoft Toronto

The Sands of Time remake was announced in 2020 and was scheduled for release in 2021, but this was in hindsight. It turns out to be very optimistic. Instead, Ubisoft moved the game from studios in Pune and Mumbai to ubisoft Montreal, which didn't look good, but at least had a nostalgic appeal.Ubisoft Montreal is the developer of the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Instead of visible progress, there was another delay, and near the end of 2022, Ubisoft began to refund all existing pre-orders, even though it claimed the game was still happening. 1 year after that, Ubisoft said that things were going well after the development reboot, but not so well as willing to commit to a new release target.

This led us to now, and Ubisoft Toronto's new engagement — although Ubisoft Montreal is still working on it.

"Ubisoft Toronto is taking part in the development of Prince of Persia: A remake of the Sand of Time! The studio tweeted. "We are excited to bring the creativity, expertise and updated technology of our studio to rewind time and refresh this beloved classic with ubisoftmtl partners.

Ubisoft Montreal extended an obligatory warm welcome to the project: "I can't wait to weave together the magic of this classic story so excited to embark on this epic journey with you!"

The natural question is, how much Ubisoft studios do you need to remake a 20-year-old video game?"The answer, I guess, is, frankly, "four, so far," which I find a little, well, weird. I'm not going to come across negatively about the challenges of making video games, but the sand of the original time is right there. Just do it, but new, right?

The other, perhaps less obvious question is about the Splinter Cell remake that Ubisoft Toronto announced in 2021, basically having heard of zip, but the studio probably suggests the possibility of revealing it at the Ubisoft Forward showcase on May 10. In response to inquiries about that game, Ubisoft Toronto simply said, "We're still working on it."
