Sony's PSVR2 virtual Reality headset will get an adapter for Pc this summer, but its best feature is the PlayStation.

Suppose you are a fan of VR games and have been looking for a headset that offers high resolution and a wide field of view to prevent motion sickness. In that case, you might be happy to know that Sony has announced an adapter for the PlayStation VR2 headset. This will allow you to connect to the appropriate gaming PC. What you may not be very satisfied with is how many of the features of PSVR2 are not available on that platform.

Sony launched a 5th generation VR headset for PlayStation2 last year, but it hasn't sold particularly since then. With a resolution of 2000x2040 and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, the HDR OLED panel is easy for the eyes as well as a 110-degree field of view.

There are infrared cameras to track eye movements and multiple gyroscopes and accelerometers to monitor head movements (more to assist with it In addition, the hand controller is equipped with adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, very similar to Sony's Dualsense controller for ps5 It has been a long time since I was a child.

Sounds fab, yes'The Pc adapter does not support the use of HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, or haptic feedback (other than rumble). In other words, all the best aspects of PSVR3 that make it stand out against things like Metaquest 2 are not options.

And there are adapter prices to consider. If you don't already have a PSVR2 headset, you'll have to use aroundド1/€450/€500/£440 to get one in the PC adapter kit itself, then another 60/€60/£50, which is more than the price of the Quest 3 256GB version and, in terms of functionality, has been significantly improved. It is not.

You also need a spare DisplayPort cable (DP1.4 compliant), a Steam account (to get the SteamVR app), and a PC that meets the minimum hardware requirements

At least this last aspect is delicious because it's a very reasonable set of requirements. It is worth noting that in VR games, high-resolution panels can bring great demand to GPUs.This is because 2 frames like this need to be rendered at a sufficiently high rate to prevent motion sickness. This is why Sony recommends GeForce RTX3060 or Radeon RX6600XT for graphics cards to ensure that everything is as smooth as possible. But much depends on the game being played, and many VR games make it very easy on the graphics, giving the GPU time for things easily.

If you are still on sale with the idea of using a Sony PSVR2 headset on your gaming PC, who am I to determine if you are, you will have to wait a while because it is not available until 7 May. It gives you plenty of time to check out the best VR games, but frankly, if this is your first time dipping your toes into virtual reality, I strongly recommend that you don't spend too much and go with Metaquest 2, the best, inexpensive way to VR games.
