Following the great success of the Fallout series, which is an important and commercial hit that caused an unprecedented rise in interest in the game, Amazon has released a live-action series based on yakuza: Like A Dragon

Like A Dragon: The Yakuza tells the original story based on the famous game series, directed by Masaharu Takeuchi and starring Ryoma Takeuchi As Kazuma Kiryu. The series "introduces the dramatic story of modern Japan and these intense characters... The game of the past could not be explored."

Despite aiming to tread new ground, the series is clearly based on the events of the first game: "In 1995 and 2005, spanning two periods like the Dragon: The Yakuza, the original crime-suspense-action series, is a game of justice, duty and humanity. It follows the life, childhood friend, and influence of the decision of Kazuma Kiryu, a strong, horrible and incomparable yakuza warrior," Amazon said.

Kikuchi Masayoshi, the head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the developer of Like A Dragon, and a longtime producer of the series, said he never thought of recreating an old piece because of "challenges and tribulations," but he seems pleased that someone else is doing it.

"If I've ever been sent in the past through some sort of cosmic joke, this is the experience I want to make," Kikuchi said. "If I had to go through the aperture anyway, I would like to make the most attractive versions of Kamurocho and Kazuma Kiryu.

"While games can experience their world through a subjective lens, this adaptation will ultimately be an objective way to enjoy the show. There is no doubt that fans of the series will be attracted by the way they breathe life into the game and add new surprises. Newcomers, I'm sure I find myself simply investing in the gritty realism of the show. If anything, I'd like to see this version with an audience from around the world — experiencing all of its strength and soaking up every second."

I don't know how to do that. Yes, like the dragon, it's at least nominally a bloody knuckle crime story, featuring a lot of sneaky villains and bad behavior. But it's also, well, this:

And that's the show I see! "Gritty realism" seems somehow uninteresting, but as someone who has never even entered the soprano, make it worth it. Maybe it's about "me".

We'll definitely get a better feel for what's in store when the promotional trailer starts to fall. There are no signs of when it will happen at this point, but I expect to see much sooner: Like a dragon: The Yakuza will be 10/25 and 11/1
