Fractal design goes all touchy-feely with fabric covered PC case, plush headset, swish game chair

I always thought fractal design had a particularly Nordic approach to its products, what with all the clean lines, soft curves and the use of wood and other high-end materials. But it was the PC case. Currently, the Swedish-based company has made some bold moves into a completely new market.

Today's Computex press event wasn't just a new PC case, as many had expected. To many ohs and aahs, Fractal revealed not only a cloth-covered, "chimney" style case, but also a game chair to go with a wireless headset that will not look out of place in a luxury hotel suite.

Even in that case. Simply named "mood", the outer body of the fabric not only looks great, but feels it too. The entire outer casing slides upwards from the top (1 journalist managed to flatten it in 2 minutes, despite attempts to screw it), revealing a huge 180mm fan, and the sleek inner chassis pushes the internal components into place neatly.

The outer casing, which supports up to 280mm AIO and is offered in black or "light" color (looks almost grey to me, but what do I know) and is sold at sale6 on May 150 this year, feels and sees it for myself and it actually strikes me as cheaper than expected.

It's still a lot for the chassis, but you really have no one to be wise that it is actually a powerful gaming PC and the front room

the headset was also a real surprise. Its metal frame, combined with some very soft ear pads called Scape, gives it a very high-end feel that makes for a better price

Yet it feels light and very well-made, with both a removable microphone and wireless and Bluetooth support. It is included. It's certainly a very premium-feeling object, but before you can tell if it's worth that kind of money, you'll need to do the right tests when it becomes available later this year.

And there's a game chair, a fractal design refinement. I'll be honest, it looked nice, but it just struck me as, well, a really pretty nice chair. There is a lot of adjustability alongside the padded armrests, a movable memory foam headrest and a hollow wheel (probably) that makes you feel like "gliding in the air".

That's good, but again, expensive. The Alc550 will get you one of the mesh or fabric models, while the Alcantara model is the jaw-dropping jaw1900. I like me a bit of Alcantra, but having spent a short time on the mesh model, I'm sure you'll be fine with a cheap unit.

Still, this may take the most surprising prize of all my press briefings on this trip. I was expecting a case, maybe a weird lifestyle tie-in, but the fabric coating, interesting headsets and high-end chairs weren't on my list.

Early on, before anything became clear, I heard someone say that fractals are "the Ikea of the game." A lazy analogy I thought, given the Swedish connection.

Furniture style and, well, after straight furniture revealed today, maybe it was more accurate than I initially thought.
