As Morrissey once said: Meat is murder. I highly recommend not to look into anything else he has ever said, but the guy had a point with it. Whether you're a devoted vegan or a full-on carnivore, I don't think many would agree that the meat industry is a bit of a nightmare, and that humanity's management of planet Earth in general — for all the beasts that walk through it - was a bit of a mixed bag.

I think everyone understands this better than Jean Lima, the single developer behind Saborus, a horror game where you play Chicken, a demo that I just ended up playing, and Lima was inspired to make the game "He had a pet chicken and suffered when his beloved pet died." That's why "most people's food"

thinks "Abe's weird thing, but you're poultry," and you're pretty much there. Saborus will do your job by guiding its poultry protagonists from the slaughterhouse, stealing the people of the past, revealing dark secrets and rationing the way to freedom. It's not the gameplay, it's the premise, but it's the most interesting thing.

In my hands-on time with that demo, I went from an ordinary Jane factory to a room overflowing with chickens on a chopping block, and the factory gradually grew horrible before finally ending up in a kind of laboratory where Saboras was growing Gigant chickens using some kind of spider parasite.

So, yes, in addition to Abe's weird thing, you're a chicken, it's also Resident Evil 4, but you're a chicken.

It's a great premise and runs pretty well as far as the game's repressive themes and harsh aesthetics are concerned, but the actual gameplay can be done, oh, a little more time in the oven. The chickens, as you see, lack both the bristling arsenal of Leon S Kennedy's weapons, Abe's ability to hypnotize enemies, and both heights. That said, the game's rationing section is simple enough, but things get frustrating when you actually have to start hiding from the factory guards.

Being very close to the ground means that your spatial awareness is not enough to track where the enemy is, once they catch you, try it like I did, once they find me, I couldn't shake the tracker, I scattered around the area of the game, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, I could not shake the tracker, Even if you try to duck into the hidey-hole you are stuck in. I just ran around like, well, you know what, I was beaten to death in a tranchon. Not the chicken run experience I wanted.

Still, the premise is great, and I could easily see the game turn into something special with a little more polish and tweaking. If you want to hit the factory farming, you can follow Saborus on the Steam page.
