O.G.How many years is it since the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is finally getting the arcade Brawler's tie-in?

It would make sense, right'side-scrolling Power Rangers Arcade Broiler in the style of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in the city of Time or Anger, but it never happened in the Golden Age of the genre. Following a new lease of arcade brawler in recent years, Digital Eclipse is finally here to make it happen in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind, with the trailer revealed from today's Summer Game Fest showcase coming out.

And the new Power Rangers game looks pretty good indeed, reminiscent of the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: a real labor of love to do genre and subject justice The make-up and break for a game like this is definitely how it feels on hand, but I've already seen it. In a gorgeous, detailed pixel art environment to Rita's unwinding nails and one of those jammin' chiptune soundtracks you would have expected outside the old Konami arcade cabinet, you can tell the look and sound.

I was also impressed by the variety of weird 2D graphics tricks and gameplay changes that are shown in the game's first trailer: Rita's Rewind is a mode 7 style, fake 3D shooter game mode, rollercoaster levels, and the ability to transform enemy sprites. They seem to have a playful sensibility, with one opponent in the middle of the fight growing to a huge size.

I'm not an authority on Power Rangers lore here — I was born so late that I was making moves in front of the TV with Goku instead of the Green Rangers — but I'm sure the time travel story properly respects the rich tapestry of the Power Rangers canon. It's a good idea. If nothing else, I have enough second-hand nostalgia through my brother to appreciate the love and effort that seems to have entered Rita's rewind.

We won't be long waiting for Rita's rewind: The Power Rangers brawler is due to be released this year and can be wishlist on Steam.
