Multi vs Reboot attracts more than 110K simultaneous players on steam

The Free-to-play fighting game MultiVersus - most easily described as "Smash Bros., but it's a Warner Bros. character" — has had a pretty good launch date, becoming the third most populous Steam game at the moment, with a peak of over 110,000 concurrent players. This is actually a bit lower than MultiVersus' all-time high of 1022, which hit 153,044Steam concurrent peaks during the open beta, but it's a respectable start - or, re-

MultiVersus has a slightly odd history. When the open beta was launched in 2022, we and many others assumed that, like the typical early access game, MultiVersus would be available until the 1.0 release. That's not the case: the developer player's first game "took MultiVersus offline last year to prepare for launch.""

It was unexpected, but downtime could have been the best thing for it: Molly looked at the new MultiVersus early, it's heavy combat, improved camerawork, and she's also a fan of the somewhat controversial Banana Guard, which is also an addition to the new roster 1.

Her main complaint was the onslaught of free-to-play monetization systems:"I was shocked by tons of daily missions, event-specific missions and Battle pass missions, which confused me as I tried to navigate the game's menu," writes Molly.

Some players feel the opposite way about reboots: where Molly appreciates weighter combat, one Steam reviewer says that MultiVersus is "very clunky and slow" and that a split seems to be forming between open beta and launch priorities.

The recent Steam review average is on the positive side, so the latter opinion seems to win, but again some of those reviews add walter White to the roster.
