Minecraft is building its own Netflix-only series to explore the "Minecraft world in a new light."

Minecraft is a dinky little indie game released in 2009, and "dinky" means "incredibly popular and as widely recognized as the Lego blocks that may have influenced it, and over its lifetime, the game has sold more than 300 million copies and is the historical first of the game as a medium."

So, naturally, it's getting Netflix treatment. Announced today on most official Minecraft and Netflix channels, the series is part of an ongoing 15th anniversary celebration for the literal and figurative blockbuster game. These celebrations include "15 days of exclusive items and daily specials". As for the announcement itself, the details are incredibly slim.

The short teaser shows a creeper wandering across the screen like a Pixar lamp, except instead of killing the letters with cold blood, it explodes — revealing a massive, lava-flooded Nether, sinister, clearly non-blocky "N" looming all over with threatening energy, and a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more than a little more Like an obelisk built in homage to the dark and vengeful God.

The series is created in conjunction with the Lego property Ninjago: Dragons Rising, snugly, with the studios behind shows like Wildbrain, Sonic Prime. As shared in variety, the show promises to "show the Minecraft world in a new light, an original story with new characters." In other words, no, this is not the second coming of Minecraft: Story Mode that can't be played now.

I played some Minecraft — I was living in the mid—2010s, so of course I have - but my block-building days are long behind me...I'm cautiously optimistic"Minecraft isn't exactly rife with deep storytelling, but I know it doesn't automatically doom the entire venture

but just as it was for the Among Us animated series, I'm almost perplexed that it took such a long time. This series, I would bet, is trying to print money, whether it's rave reviews or not. "Upcoming updates" promise video descriptions, so get your theorycrafting now.
