Wolcen: Lord of Mayhem and Development, with multiplayer to shut down on May 9

Developer Wolcen Studio announced that the 2020 action RPG Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem will receive no more development or support, and the multiplayer component will end later this year. From 2024/9/3, Wolcen will no longer support multiplayer features. In addition, we will stop further development and support of the game," they said in a post on their website and on Steam.

Fans have probably seen this coming for a while. Wolcen's last proper patch was on May 7 last year, but it received Steam Cloud support on May 11. That's not to say Wolcen is an incomplete game: the 2023-5 patch added the final chapter of that story.

However, the shutdown of multiplayer games is always fraught. A number of negative reviews have popped up on Steam after the announcement, almost entirely citing the removal of game components that people paid for access to.

"Wolcen will continue to play in single player mode and want to ensure that it can be purchased at a new, permanently discounted price."

"This decision will allow us to take over the lessons we have learned from Wolcen and focus on our new project," the developer said in a post on "the future of the game." "We are committed to excellence and driven to create new experiences and adventures that we hope you will aspire to participate in.

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem received 58% review from PC Gamer upon release, with reviewer Fraser Brown calling it "bloody buggy.""
