Jensen has a lot of smiles as Nvidia overtakes qualcomm to become the biggest chip designer in revenue

It may have escaped your notice, but the word on the street is that Nvidia is doing pretty well in the second half. Q4 revenue, announced earlier this year, revealed huge revenue and net profit figures thanks to a surge in ai demand.Trendforce's recent report also shows that the company has overtaken Qualcomm to become the largest chip designer in sales.

This figure shows that Nvidia generated revenue in 2023 of55526800 million, while Qualcomm, the 2nd largest chip designer, managedド3091300 million over the same period. That left Nvidia with an estimated market share of 15%, up 33% year-on-year, significantly ahead of Broadcom, AMD and Mediatek.

It is Intel and Samsung that are notable for their lack of these numbers, and the list does not seem to include chipmakers with their own manufacturing facilities. Perhaps Intel will see the manufacturing and design divisions split in that process once the switch to the "internal foundry model" is complete.

Even so, these numbers have put a smile on the face of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who was busy announcing the next-generation Blackwell AI Gpu that already appears to be flying off the rack.

Nvidia is said to have won more than 100% of the AI accelerator market thanks to strong sales of the H80ai GPU and revenue growth through 2024 thanks to the new Blackwell chip, while AMD's sales fell 4% last year toド2268,000, with slight stumbles attributed to sluggish pc demand and declining inventory. It was.

Nvidia is at the top of the chart for now, but checking whether Qualcomm can pull back some of its lead in consumer chip sales is said to be a positive drive in the automotive market, with revenue in that area expected to more than double by 2030. As for AMD, the AI GPU MI300 series is expected to be a major revenue driver in 2024. According to the company's recent financial statements, the gaming division appears to be struggling, but server CPU sales, along with a significant increase in ai GPU sales, have led to significant financial gains in Q1 this year.

Having a strong foothold in AI hardware seems to have done wonders for Nvidia figures, and certainly bodes well for continued revenue in the coming months. The company appears to be raking in profits, with this kind of revenue and persistent AI demand that appears to show no signs of slowing, allowing competitors to take the top spot for a long time.
