Asus (sorta) has announced the ROG Ally X: larger battery, updated design, same performance as the original ROG Ally

Asus has announced the next handheld gaming PC, but it's not ROG Ally2. The new handheld will be called the ROG Ally X and will be a revised version of the original ROG Ally. We still don't know everything about the new device, but this time we know it will be black.

Asus employees Jake Kulinski and Whitson Gordon announced some details during a very short ROG stream.

"It's not a complete redesign or a whole new generation," Gordon says.

"Not everything is changing, but there are significant improvements across the board," says Kulinksi. "The battery is improving, and it's not a small battery improvement. Improved storage, RAM, ports, and other physical changes to the device itself."

Asus has been light in detail for now. The company says it will have to wait further until 6/2 during the "special announcement." This, unlike today's teaser, will be fully revealed.

That's not strictly true, but the company briefly told The Verge about the new device.

In addition to the new black colourway confirmed by Asus, one of the headline features of the new ROG Ally X handheld will significantly improve battery life, Asus employee Shawn Yen told Sean Hollister of The Verge.1 Although they do not elaborate on exactly what we can expect.

Here are other tips on what will happen from this. Asus says that the ROG Ally X has more RAM, a longer M.Equipped with a 2SSD slot (as seen in other Windows-based handholders), a redesigned joystick module It also says it would be repaired more easily.

Speaking of which, Asus reportedly moved the SD card slot, which led to a wave of returns on the original ROG Ally. The company does not like to talk about it very much, and communication on the issue wants a lot. After the motherboard redesign, even today, product Manager Gabriel Meng told The Verge: "We want people to think that's what we had to do.

On the software side, a new version of Armoury Crate will be launched in 2024-7. It has several new tabs, navigation tools and a controller mapping program for handheld users in a similar way to a steam deck

But the ROG Ally X features the same silicon as ROG Ally: AMD Z1Extreme. It also reportedly uses the same screen, 1080p7-inch IPS.
