Helldivers2 only became a live service game in the middle of development, but "it feels like a live service was born to do what it does."

Russ Nickel, a former lead writer for Helldivers2, was recently interviewed by Inverse, explaining that the developer Arrowhead has not decided it will be a service game since it started working. Its popularity certainly suggests that it was the right call to make. "This feels like what a live service was born to do," Nickel said. "For a while, Arrowhead didn't know if the sequel would be the title of the live service or not. But as we talked more about it, this is such a cool live service experience, the story is constantly weird because it feels really alive."

"When I joined," he said, "There was already a game that was fun to play. And the second half of the development was adding to the story and figuring out exactly what that playable prototype would be."

A BIG PART OF THE REACTIVITY IS DOWN TO ARROWHEAD'S OFFICIAL GAME MASTER JOEL, WHO PLAYS THE SAME ROLE IN HELLDIVERS AS 2DM DOES IN GAMES OF d& D—MILLIONS PRE

SAYS NICKEL IS A DUNGEON MASTER HIMSELF AND HELPED HIM AS AN EXPERIENCED GAME WRITER. It's a good idea. In a video game, you can see that, as with D&D, there are no plans to survive contact with the enemy. "You build a sandbox with plans," Ni said, "but you need to be able to let go of those plans." I love how cooperative it is. It's so crazy to me that there are now 10 million people and dungeon masters who are playing the game and they are cooperating with all the stories."

Nickel was the lead writer for Helldivers2 during development, but he is no longer obsessed with the project, and co-writer Stephen Flowers takes on the role. But the two are still in touch and come back. "We were roommates and we improvised together for a long time," Nickel said. "So we have that "yes, and" background. In the game, I think there's a lot of improvisation, being fast on your feet, being able to see what someone else does and "yes, and "it and there or not"

The latest development in the ongoing saga of helldivers2 will allow players to unlock anti-tank mines if it is completed. What is the order? All they have to do is to defeat 20 billion automata.
