Every game studio has the same, top-priority goal of getting enough players on the field to destroy Sweden. Companies like Capcom and Activision have, of course, had more than enough players in their myriad series to occupy Stockholm for some time, but now brave start-ups have joined their ranks.

Arrowhead, in the words of CEO Johan Pilestedt, announced that Helldivers2 has sold more than 12 million copies since its release in May, meaning "Helldivers2 has more Helldivers than Swedes." There are about 1,050 million people in Sweden, but if you're wondering, arrowhead is a Swedish studio.

Sony also announced its consolidated financial results for the 2023 fiscal year, calling Helldivers2 "the biggest PC hit title ever."In addition, the game's sales beat the record set by God of War Ragnarok in 2022.In other words, it's the fastest selling game on PlayStation's history.

It's hard to find a specific figure for Helldivers1 sales, but I'm surprised if Helldivers2 doesn't outperform its predecessor at an exponential rate. Helldivers2 has benefited from downright trendy word-of-mouth and a level of popularity that is practically enough to crash its servers at startup. In addition, it has now dominated the discourse of video games comfortably for three months.

Can be compared to Arrowhead's first Magicka game, but it sold about 3 million copies in about 3 years on Steam. Oh yeah, Helldivers2 is getting a bit better.

It is a success that deserves abundance. I'm not a lot of multiplayer guys, but I can tell you that Helldivers has had a PC gamer office with a kind of death grip since it hit 3 months ago, and my understanding is that everyone is a democratic enemy managed by a fine red paste (or nut and bolt). The reason is that they are having a very good time reducing the number of users, at least when they can catch up with a quick update.

Pilestedt does not provide much of a breakdown of the game's 1200 million sales, except that about 150,000 of them are Swedes themselves. Just one percent of the player as a whole, in other words, is certainly not enough to stop the game's advance to Smoland. It's a plan, right"I'm sure it's a plan.
