Overwatch2's mid-season patch has made Sigma's Ultimate even more terrifying than before

Overwatch 2 has a small mid-season patch that just buffs some of the heroes and slightly improves competitive matchmaking, most of the changes

Sigma's ultimate Gravitic Flux lifts enemies with a radius of 8 meters, launches into the sky and drags them back to earth, inflicting 50 damage on take-off and damaging the floor. If you hit a hero, it will deal 50% follow-up damage of the hero's maximum health. This means that most squishy heroes like Tracer and Ana can be killed in one fell swoop.

There are not many ways to counter this, but some exceptions are personal/projected barriers from Zarya, Mei's cryo-freeze, or Kiriko's protective suzu. You can also interrupt the ums (like everything else) in crowd-controlled ways like the sleep darts of the spear Ana from Orissa.

But obviously, this gamma can now be dragged into the sky even if it's on the other side of a wall or obstacle because Sigma doesn't need a line of sight to influence the enemy.

Twitch streamer and Top500Overwatch Tank Main Flats gave us a short Twitter video of what this change means for Sigma. Here, he takes Sigma to the practice field and uses his uma to lift a couple of bots in the air, even though they are on the other side of the building.

As expected, players aren't very happy to see this change, but mostly make Sigma's ult more dangerous and harder to avoid than before. It's a good idea. "I read the patch notes and immediately thought this was possible, but I wanted to give them the benefit of doubt," one player replies in a video for Flats.

I have already fallen victim to this change. Making a defense at the Shambali Monastery last night was quite frightening as the main of the Ana. Every time I heard "The Universe sings for me," I tried to run for cover, but wherever I was, Sigma managed to trap me into his ute. My fate was pretty sealed every time, because there was no way to sleep him through the wall.
