Assassin's Creed Shadows does not require an internet connection to run: "You can play the entire journey offline"

Ubisoft has revealed that Assassin's Creed Shadows, the next story of the Warring States Period Japanese samurai and Shinobu, does not require an internet connection to run. To install the game you need to be online, but once it's done, you can play offline as much as you want.

This confusion arose from Assassin's Creed Shadows' PlayStation Store page, which indicated that an Internet connection was required to play the game. This did not work particularly well for some fans.First, Assassin's Creed is a single-player game, because ubisoft tends to unplug old games. The recent decision to shut down Crew's online support and make it unplayable has helped spark a Stop Killing Games campaign that forces game makers to make sure their products are playable even after online support has ended.

But in this case, it was clearly a mistake on Sony's side. "We wanted to share some early information about the upcoming launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows," Ubisoft said in a message posted to Twitter.

"Assassin's Creed Shadows does not always require a required connection. An online connection is required to install the game, but you can play the entire journey offline and explore Japan without an online connection."

The PlayStation Store list has also changed, and online play now appears as "optional.""

Having to be online to install the game is annoying by itself, but almost unusual: Back in 2015, the physical version of Fallout 4 installed, but with a whole different set of pixels that are forced to go online to play the game. At this point, I would usually rant about the rights surrendered to corporate behemoths in the name of the dangers and convenience of the digital world, but I'm sure not many people are interested (at least, that's the impression I usually get when I go off), and it's a good idea. Would end up on every edit room floor anyway. So instead I would simply say I'm glad it's not the case here: Assassin's Creed Shadows can be played completely offline and that's it

We only have a taste of Assassin's Creed Shadows at this point, but so far it's all right. We are making a new move and our hope is high. It is set to start on 11/15.
