The closure of Arkane Austin (along with Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Games and Roundhouse Games) last week spelled the end of the line for the not-particularly-well-received co-op FPS Redfall and shots on the Cyberpunk2077-style redemption tour.

The update was announced in a brief message on Twitter. "Thanks for all your supportive messages," Arkane wrote. "We are working to release our final update, Game Update 4, which brings an improved neighborhood and nest system, single-player pauses, offline mode, and more. We will provide additional details at once. Thank you all."

Redfall requires an online connection even in single—player mode, but this isn't great - Point Director Harvey Smith said a few months before the game's launch, Smith said adding offline play was not a small job, but Arkane said it would be "a good idea to do it in the future." He was actively considering to fix it."

When Redfall crashed badly at launch, that aspiration probably came off the rails, giving developers more pressing issues to worry about. Updates continued, but players did not, promising that new characters and other content would be postponed to 2024 and fall victim to the closure of Arkan Austin.

The addition of big content is off the table, but it's good to make sure the right single player support is coming. Not many people are currently playing Redfall, but given that Redfall is only 1 year old at this point, it's a shame to see it completely inoperable as it relies on a remote server that no longer exists. Arkane said that when the closure was announced, Redfall servers would remain online and people could continue to play, but that's not a situation that will last forever - especially with concurrent player numbers slumping by double digits.

The response to the Redfall tweet is bittersweet: Hundreds of replies have thanked Arkane Austin for its efforts and expressed sympathy and sadness for its fate. 

Information about the promised Redfall Credit program that will be provided to players who have purchased the now-canceled Hero Pass has not yet been finalized, but it will be available to players who have purchased the now-canceled Hero Pass.bethesda.net .
