Undertale developer Toby Fox has confirmed that the work on Deltarune, the next chapter in his new game, is well underway. The release dates for Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 have not yet been confirmed, but he has confirmed that the development team is making significant progress.

"Chapter 4 development is better than ever," Fox said in its newsletter. "We are on track to meet our internal deadlines. New recruits are already making a big difference to improve the atmosphere and feel of the chapter. I feel really good about this, champ."

After hiring a new producer and inviting new talent to the project, things seem to be going well for Deltarune. Fox outlined the current progress, which includes that most cutscenes are finished, only a little bit left and there are a few other cutscenes that need to be polished a little too. All the attacking and fighting work is also mostly done, but "we still have the necessary adjustments to improve the flow of bosses," Fox says. 

The Overworld also requires more than 10 maps and some Polish: "A kind of complex gimmick, almost every iteration is done" and Fox "Then whatever you need to go to those 10 maps and one more." (The gimmick is like a teacup ride in Chapter 2.

But just because the foundation is almost complete does not mean that Chapter 4 will be prepared immediately. Fox points out that adjusting the pace of the game and adjusting the difficulty can take "unknown time," so it's not best to get your hopes up for a round the Corner release. 

"Even if Chapter 4 is completed smoothly, there may be a surprise factor, so we're not at the point where we can make a solid promise," Fox continued. "That said, we'll let you guys know as soon as possible! I can't wait for you guys to see a lot of the moments and characters I've had in my head for the past 8 years."

Chapters 3 and 4 were released together, and the last time I heard about Chapter 3 progress was in 2023-10."Given that the first 2 chapters were released separately and were 3 years apart, we have seen Fox and other members of the team slow the pace since Chapter 1 was a surprise release in 2018.
