Billy Basso, the developer of Animal Well, suggests a new game "that is in the same universe but may not be a direct sequel

Animal Well has had incredible success in the last few weeks since its release and has been shaped to become one of the most acclaimed Metrologvanias since Hollow Knight. At the end of this success, developer Billy Basso suggests the possibility of an upcoming game that dives back into a world that contains its secrets.

In a Q&A on r/NintendoSwitch, developer Billy Basso and business/marketing Manager Dan Adelman answered a few questions from fans, including what happens next. "I'm currently planning on making a game that's in the same universe, but it may not be a direct sequel," Basso says. This is not the first time indie developers have adopted this approach, as Undertale's dev Toby Fox has chosen to release Deltarune in the same way.

This news is pretty exciting, especially for players who have completed the game by solving all Animal Well's elusive secrets. Even though Basso had previously said in an interview with the Guardian that "a puzzle that might take 10 years to solve — I want to be able to play the game 10 years from now - most players take about 5 hours before rolling the credits, and then the egg room door closes." It took an extra 10 hours or more to unlock all of the apps.

To this end, fans also asked Basso how the community felt about solving all the secrets quickly. To this, Basso just said he was "very flattering people cared so much.""It was amazing to see so many people working together like this," Adelman says. I feel like I was part of something really special. Very few phenomena on the Internet really bring people together in such a positive way. So I was a bit disappointed that some of the bigger secrets were quickly resolved, but the game is talking to people and helping them form bonds and friendships"

says quickly on the theme of how the community manages to find Time Capsule Basso. "I thought it was very impressive! They thought and worked around the clock to try out all possible solutions, and eventually, they did. I'm glad that at least it wasn't actually data mining, and the encryption I put in place was technically working. They solved it legally faster than I had ever imagined.

But to those who are still struggling to complete the animals well, Basso recommends "allow the flowers to guide you.""This may not make much sense at first, but what I say is that if you see a yellow flower, you should probably follow the path to see where it leads
