The "Fallout" TV show is a low-key revival of a mobile game that has been steadily growing since 2015.

If you've somehow missed the last seven days of publicity, which is shocking considering how much we've been banging on about Fallout, the Fallout TV show has been pretty amazing. Its success has spilled over into the original, with games like "New Vegas" and "Fallout 4" seeing player numbers increase and "Fallout 76" hitting a record high on Steam.

Another game that is feeling the love right now is the management sim "Fallout Shelter," which has quietly been on mobile since 2015 and on PC since 2017, and according to GamesIndustry.biz, since the TV show's release, its revenue has 232.4 percent jumped from about $20,000 on April 10 to $80,000 just three days later. Not a lot of money in the mobile gaming world, but still a decent increase for a game that has been something of a background radiation for the past few years.

Downloads are up 346.4% over the same period, according to the report, and are already up 20% in just 24 hours since the show appeared on Amazon Prime Video. As of this writing, the game is holding the #9 spot on Apple's Top Free Games chart for iPhone and #45 on the same chart for iPad; for PC players, SteamDB reports that since the show's debut, the game's concurrent player count has increased by 217%, from just under 2,000 players to a peak of 5,871 from just under 2,000.

While the numbers are still small, it's nice to see what an actually good video game adaptation can do for a series. I'm one of those people who walked away from "Fallout Shelter" faster than it took me to download it in 2015, but I have fond memories of standing outside a classroom in college, surrounded by my peers who had been banging away at a small safe for months.

Our own Ellie Gould thinks the best way to tackle this TV show is to play "Fallout Shelter" in parallel. She says, "I'm just amazed at how much fun this little game is. Taking care of all the residents isn't a daunting task, but you still need to keep on top of things." The game has been updated for the mobile version (unfortunately not the PC version), and the show's main trio... And they just added Ma Jun for some reason.
